  1. During a period of paid occupancy a hotel manager or motel clerk cannot give valid consent to enter and search your room.
  2. During a lawful tenancy, a landlord cannot consent to search your room.
  3. Claims by officer’s that “we have a search warrant” or “we’ll be back with a search warrant” can make your consent involuntarily and invalid.  
  4. Consent obtained during an unlawful detention is invalid.  
  5. Consent can be limited.
  6. Consent can be revoked.
  7. Officers are not required to inform you of your right to refuse consent.
